Delicious Chana: Make tasty dishes with Chana Dal

The most popular legume, Chana dal is both delicious and nutritious. It is easy to digest and has various health benefits. Its low Glycemic Index makes it an important legume to be consumed by those who have diabetes.   In India, Chana dal is used in almost all the regions and thousands of exciting and tasty recipes are prepared. It can be soaked for few hours and then cooked with several veggies or can be roasted and grounded to a powdered form, known as Besan.

1. Delicious Chana Dal:

The nutritive value of Chana dal is quite high. It can easily become a part of your diet. Prepare a tasty and yummy Chana dal which can be served with hot roti or rice.

Ingredients:

Chana dal 1 cup
Red chilly powder ¼ tsp
Turmeric powder ¼ tsp
Garam masala ¼ tsp
Tomato, finely chopped 1 cup
Water 4 cups
Oil 2 tbsp
Garlic, chopped ½ tsp
Cumin seeds ½ tsp
Salt As per taste

Procedure:

  • Soak chana dal in water for 2-3 hours.
  • Wash and drain the soaked dal.
  • In a pan, boil water.
  • Add chana dal, turmeric and salt along with tomatoes.
  • Cover the pan and cook over medium flame till the dal is tender.
  • Stir the dal occasionally while cooking.
  • For tempering, heat the oil in a pan and when hot, add cumin seeds. When the seeds begin to sputter, add garlic.
  • Stir well and fry till the garlic turns light brown. Add red chilli powder, garam masala and pour it immediately over the cooked dal and cover the pot.

2. Fried Chana Dal:

A great snack loved by all people of all ages. Fried chana dal is a famous tea time recipe too. Prepare chana dal Bhel by adding chopped tomatoes and onions to the crispy fried dal.

Ingredients:

Chana dal 1 cup
Red chilli powder ¼ tsp
Turmeric powder ¼ tsp
Dry Mango Powder ¼ tsp
Oil for deep frying
Salt As per taste

Procedure:

  • Soak chana dal in water for 2-3 hours.
  • Wash and drain the soaked dal.
  • Then, place the soaked dal on a kitchen towel and pat it dry.
  • Heat oil in a deep frying pan.
  • Drop dal in hot oil.
  • Stir and fry the chana dal.
  • Remove fried chana dal onto an absorbent paper.
  • Sprinkle red chilli powder, dry mango powder, turmeric powder and salt.
  • Mix thoroughly and store in an airtight container.
